The ALADDIN Podcast – Meet the Host

When creating the ALADDIN podcast, our team were passionate about putting the patient voice at its heart. The science and regulation behind developing new medicines for children with cancer can be complex, but ultimately it must always be
done with patient needs at the centre. We were therefore honoured to invite parent advocate Sara Wakeling to be our host.

In the ALADDIN podcast, Sara speaks with experts from across the paediatric oncology landscape on a wide range of topics, from industry sponsored trials to patient reported outcomes. You can listen to all available episodes on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

Sara is proud to be a passionate and dedicated childhood cancer advocate, driven by her daughter Alice, who was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in 2015. Despite extensive treatment, Alice tragically died almost five years after her diagnosis, aged 7.

Six months into Alice’s journey, Sara founded the charity Alice’s Arc – a global community of families, scientists and doctors coming together to defeat rhabdomyosarcoma. Sara continues to run the organisation, which focuses on advancing research into rhabdomyosarcoma to find better treatments that can lengthen and improve the quality of life for children affected.

Alongside the charity, Sara is also a patient representative on a number of initiatives such as NexTGen, EpSSG parent group and the FaR-RMS clinical study. Through this work, Sara ensures that the needs of children and their families are always considered in research to develop new medicines.
